Day 6 evening

So Ron was talking about the wind last night and said that when it comes from n ne it does so usually for three days- he wasn't wrong lol.

It's been about 150 mile into the wind and let me tell ya it really wears ya out (but helps with the leg muscles lol).

I had a good stop at the running/bike shop in Port Dover and after some time there I gathered my stuff and continued on to we're I'm at now-Dunnville.

I feel like I'm taking it too easy lol these past couple days I've been cycling to at least 8. Hmm. Maybe I'll throw some casual miles on? Or kilometers, eh?

Go habs go! Gah, I take that back. Allons-y habs! Ha I think that's right.

Thinking about pushing to home tomorrow granted at this point it's closer to float lol

Day 6

So today left beautiful Turkey Point after learning a bit about it from Sheila and Ron as well as the surrounding area. These two were absolutely amazing host and it's really hard to stick to the schedule- I'm seeing such amazing places.

I'm currently sitting in Port Dover and loving life sponsored by Tim Hortons haha-back on the road.

Thanks again Jess, Sheila, and Ron!! I'll be back in the area sooner than later.

End day 5

So I seem to take stops in the worst places lol. As soon as I left town I was fighting wind for the next thirty some miles but it was still rewarding.

Lots of wind turbines and wind to go with it. Riding the back roads there are a ton of asparagus farms as well as tobacco farms-despite the difference in crops it really is starting to remind me of home.

I ended up getting to my hosts house about 845 and they were making dinner so it was a much appreciated and much needed. After watching the end of the hockey game I was out for the count haha

Day 5 mid day

So today I woke up at seven and felt surprisingly good haha. I'll elaborate more when I have a keyboard but I'll just put it out there that both Margaret and Bob are amazing folks.

I puttered around town for the morning and saw some great sights. Port Stanley really is a great place.

View from the balcony.

Fishing boats going inland.

After speaking with another Warmshowers host I stopped by another's coffee shop and just took it easy.

Got back to Margaret and Bob's and after a short chat and a photo I was on my way. A decent sized hill on the way out of town greeted me and from that point it's been slow but smooth riding.

The wind turbines are back, and got some cool photos and got to pace a car through a construction zone lol fun stuff.

Old farm meet new farm.

Ooookay I should probably be on my way I've been in this town for like two hours lol. Off to Turkey Point.

Lol how's that for a location.

End of day 4 and day 5 (kind of)

So right now sitting on a bench in Port Burwell on my way to Turkey Point-about 25 mi out at this point.

Yesterday after getting out of Tim Hortons I rode for about sixty additional miles and also caught my first rain of the trip.

Every time I got down on myself I just thought of how great this trip has been so far and how grateful I am for everyone I met. Speaking of I had an issue with my  bike seat and pulled off to the side where some kids were on their razor scooters and a sketchy BMX bike going off a ramp at an abandoned store-long story short one of the kids skateboarded to his house to get me some pliers. The problem was fixed and after I showed them my setup and answered a lot of questions lol.

So kept riding kept seeing wind turbines and ran into a couple who I later heard about from my hosts- a man wife and their child were doing the country- the husband cheered me along and I did the same for them with an added 'stay dry!' Ha I got bit for saying that.

I spoke to a woman at the gas station and she left me with a smile and I got on my way soon to face the rain. Buh my average went down morale sunk and I was just beat, but again I just kept thinking of the positives and boy was it worth it! Got to my host's house and Margaret and Bob were more than welcoming.

After a pulled pork sandwich (see below) or three and a tasty beer I was out for the count. 110+ mile day and definitely was feeling it haha.

I'll make a separate post for day 5.

Day 4 midday

Hi again going to keep this quick. Currently in Blenheim and on my way to Port Stanley- about half way there.

Saw some awesome sights today-a fishing village, trout doing their thing, and sooo many wind turbines.

Check this out- this is from when I flew over in sept by plane

I rode and am riding all that!!

Wait til I upload the dslr photos- it's absolutely awesome.

And for the record, Tim Hortons are like the Burger Kings of Canada- every hour no matter when is coffee talk hour for the seniors.

Maybe that'll change in the next town who knows haha

Day 4 morning

Well good morning from the MV Jiimaan as I begin my journey to the Canadian mainland.

Last night after getting the tent and all that set up (see below haha) I ended up riding around the island quite a bit and saw some neat sights.

Afterwards I ended up going to the west view tavern and as I walked through entrance people just started talking about my beard lol-conversation starter?

A great place and met some cool people- an aspiring opera singer, a lifetime resident of the island, and a brother of someone who went to Allegheny...an was a past president of the Outing Club, so cool.

Big day ahead but until then..later!

Day 3 continued

Sooo I lied when I said I had thirty miles left more like fifty lol either way I'm still in a great mood :) mostly because I made the earlier ferry lol.

I'm super beat though that was a long eighty miles lol.

But to continue from the last post:

On the way out of town I caught a Memorial Day ceremony and as I stopped they were firing off the salute.

Tons of people for this small community. So after I got onto the road and I swear there were more people on bikes than in cars- crazy what just a wide shoulder and signage can do to people who otherwise wouldn't ride.

So I got into Avon next and took a nice break there in the park next to the massive power plant lol

As usual or some weird looks lol but it was nice to take a break. I asked a guy in the park how far Sandusky was and he said a long thirty miles and well, I got my hopes up only to have them dashed by a sign that said it was muuuch further.

So another knock to the morale came at probably fifty miles in if that when I got a flat tire coming over a bridge. It was totally hot out sun beating down and eh just not good timing.

Regardless I looked towards the positives and figured it was a good time for a break anyways. As I was sipping my nalgene a woman on this pretty fast four lane highway pulled over to the side and asked if I needed any help which was absolutely awesome!

Then to just add to that a cyclist came by as I was getting the bead on the tire (gatorskins are ridiculously hard to get back in) and asked if I had everything I needed-mind you it was at the base of a hill too. It definitely cheered me up and after some pushing I got the bead in and was on my way.

So a couple towns over I rode into another parade and again it was perfect timing for the honor guard lol...and fire trucks lol.

America.

Haha so yeah I thought I had to make the boat at 230 and I was hurrying to get into Sandusky but the bonk hit pretty hard-wind, sun, fatigue it all hit haha.

Regardless I got into town (finally) and expected the boat to be gone. Instead I found two serious tourers and the boat was just unloading! Words don't describe how stoked I was and still am.

As it was unloading another touring dude got off and turns out he's doing the same trip as me- he was actually on his way back to Cleveland haha. But yep writing this on the boat.
Just passed cedar point-and as happy as I am to be on this I still wish I could be riding some coasters haha

Buuut yeah see ya in Canada :)

Day 3.

Sooo here we go crunch time to catch the ferry lol. I escaped Cleveland (queue the epic theme) and despite a couple wrong turns I managed to get out.

While in Cleveland I stopped to see JohnnyFootball but he must be doing other things.

Took a couple shots of the city before leaving and it was pretty nice getting out.

I rode through Ohio City an wish I had more time to stick around-I love that area.

Headed out on Lake Rd the houses are amazing and it just makes you wonder what they had going at one time.

Just got a parade detour and now sitting in a coffee shop in North Dover powering up lol wooo double shot of espresso and a cinnamon bun.

More to come when I get these thirty sunny miles done.

Ps-Holy crap looking forward to getting pushed by the wind instead of fighting it lol, soon enough.

Day 2 part 2!!

Not that many photos in this fair warning haha.

So the rest of today was pretty cool. After leaving Painsville's cafe I made my way into the park and didn't realize that it was the county seat of Lake County. I got some good photos with the dslr but this'll have to do for now. Just kidding either way the courthouse is extremely eye catching.

I wasn't paying the best attention when leaving town and got stuck on rt 20 which got busy for a while and I ended up turning down towards the lake. It was pretty awesome what I discovered-bike lanes! And marking everywhere- Mentor is pretty great.

Almost rode through a parade but took the detour then ended up riding out on the closed road lol.

So I promise a photo is coming. I was riding along the lake road when some guy in a pickup and a lawn mower in tow honked at me.  So I saw where he turned an decided to turn down and see what his deal was. Boy was I wrong. I was greeted by his wife who was wearing cycling earrings and her husband who both greeted me with a smile.

Turned out these two toured a bunch annnd their neighbor was also from Erie. Sooo an hour later I rolled on to continue on.

Right outside of Cleveland ran into this curious squirrel

Fueled up and continued on.

The ride took me through a metropark and it was so nice after being on some busy roads it was nice to ride around some peaceful settings.

About an hour later I got to Cam and Rhianna's and got a solid dinner and now  brewing a brown ipa.

Also Rhianna's loves doing dishes.

Annnd beer.

Until tomorrow haha.

Day 2 midway through.

So started off the day with a great breakfast from Rick then got on the road for the day. The adventure cycling routes are a bit goofy when leaving so a lot of stop and go to check the route. Hence this photo.

Got back on the road and the roads totally remind me of riding around home. The Aca route had me out on the ridge above rt 20 and after snagging a golf cart from my busy Alan  it was easy riding.
Just got into painsville and multitasking while writing this and eating some delicious pie.

More posts to come!
Lol oh yeah, check out that sunburn! Haaa sunscreen is now on board lol.

Day 1

Today was a great start to the trip. After adjusting the bike a bit I got back on the road towards Ohioooo.

The stateline isn't too far from where this photo is but eh took the obligatory bike photo at the state line.

In the midst of taking this photo I got a yell from across the road, "Welcome to Ohio!!"

So that was an awesome start and the hospitality just continued. Made it into Ashtabula and met up with a friend. Sat ad watched some activity in the town- if ya haven't been there before!

Got some great BBQ at briquettes holy crap was it amazing.

Before leaving I snapped this pic of the harbor and...rollercoaster.
....and apparently a dog poop sign too lol

At this point continued the ride towards Geneva and passed through Geneva on the Lake...jersey shore in Ohio lol but snappe a good photo of the sunset.

Met up with my warm showers host, Rick  and he was such a great guy. I rolled in a bit late but nonetheless he opened his home to me and was extremely welcoming. Annnd that's about it for the first day. I'll elaborate more when I'm not typing on an iPod lol
